Cale Makar NHL $20 million contract

Cale Makar's new deal with the Avalanche is an eight-year, $163.2 million extension, paying him $20.4 million per season starting in 2027-28. That makes him the first NHL player to earn $20 million annually, setting a new league record. But in the NBA, that number isn't as rare, 96 players are set to make $20 million or more in 2026-27, including guys like Draymond Green and Kyle Kuzma, while the top earners are around $60 million. Makar's resume includes a Stanley Cup, a Conn Smythe, and two Norris Trophies, so he's earned his payday, but it shows how different the salary scales are between the leagues. #DraymondGreen #KyleKuzma
