Janja Lula condemns Renan Santos

Janja Lula called out Renan Santos for his misogynistic comments at the Band presidential debate. She stated that he attacked a woman personally and derogatorily, even though she is not a candidate, was not there to defend herself, and had nothing to do with the topic being discussed. By insinuating that keeping company with another presidential candidate's wife would be a cause for 'pity', he moved far beyond political criticism. This tactic serves to delegitimize and ridicule women as a misogynistic tool to attack a political opponent. Such incidents are not isolated. Renan Santos has previously been involved in statements involving violence against women and has incited dozens of men to commit gang rape. There is a visible pattern of speech from him that normalizes disrespect toward women. Women know how hard they must fight to be heard without being interrupted, disqualified, or attacked. That is why it is necessary to immediately reprimand acts like these, which depreciate women's existences. Political debate should be a space to present proposals, confront ideas, and discuss projects for the country. It is not a place to expose, mock, or intimidate a woman, especially one who is not even a candidate
