Girondins de Bordeaux sixth division crisis

Girondins de Bordeaux has been sentenced to the sixth division after failing to guarantee the 9 million euros needed to survive. This is a historic club that secured 17 national titles including 6 Ligue 1, 4 French Cups, 3 League Cups, and 5 French Supercups. Now the situation looks critical with potential judicial liquidation and forced refunds looming over the team. The economic crisis stems from years of issues under Gerard Lopez who took over in 2021 when the squad was still at the elite level. The announcement left several players breaking down in tears as they face a devastating end. Navy blue jerseys with white accents featuring Burger King, Vigier, PSI, and OK mobility sponsors now sit alongside a crest reading Girondins de Bordeaux FC 1881 on the brink of disappearing.
