Marie Curie Nobel Prize war bonds

Marie Curie redirected her Nobel Prize resources when World War I erupted across Europe. Her initial plan involved donating the actual gold from her two medals to be melted down for the WWI war effort. The French National Bank refused to accept that specific offer. She pivoted quickly. Curie used most of the prize money she had received to purchase French war bonds instead. This ensured her financial award still assisted the conflict despite the bank's rejection of the physical medals. Every essential fact remains: the outbreak triggered the decision, the gold donation was blocked, and the bond purchase became the alternative path for support.
