Júlio César Mourinho Piazza del Duomo story

Júlio César recounts the heated standoff with José Mourinho after Inter clinched the Serie A title. The squad was stationed at a Milan hotel on Saturday ahead of their Sunday fixture against Siena. They monitored the Udinese match collectively, aware that a Milan defeat would crown them champions. When the result came through, the room erupted. Plans formed instantly to celebrate at Piazza del Duomo. However, Zanetti and teammates informed César that Mourinho blocked the idea. The manager insisted on rest before facing Siena. César found the logic flawed since the league was won and no further competitions remained. He suspected Mourinho prioritized breaking a Serie A record over celebration. Frustrated, César told Zanetti they deserved to go to the square. Mourinho intercepted the conversation and shouted at him to go alone if he wished. César fired back that everyone wanted to attend but feared speaking up. Mourinho retreated to his quarters. César followed him inside and found him in bed. He warned the coach that skipping the square would mean never winning another league. Mourinho rose and unleashed a stream of insults. Soon after, two buses arrived to transport the team to Piazza del Duomo. They joined fans in the square for songs and celebrations. Later, an intoxicated César grabbed Mourinho by the neck. He asked if the manager truly preferred the hotel. Pointing to the crowd, he declared the scene was for him. Mourinho laughed at the gesture.
