Sergio Agüero showed up at a Lanús trial and when it was his turn he said attacking midfielder. The coach already had that role covered and asked if he’d play right‑back. He was already there so he took it, telling himself he’d just bomb forward and dribble. After the session his dad told him there was no need to keep going. Down the road at Independiente he recognized the same coach during a baby football match, walked over, and asked why he didn’t get picked. The reason was his size, they wanted big defenders and he was small. Agüero still finds it funny, he’s still small, but they had the position wrong.
