World Cup host cities unpaid legacy payments

The 11 American host cities for the World Cup are still waiting on $1M legacy payments that FIFA privately committed to. Executives kept telling them they’d get what Club World Cup hosts received, $1M each in 2025, but there was never a public announcement and the funds haven’t materialized. Meanwhile, the cities poured hundreds of millions of public dollars into security, transit, and logistics. Kansas City alone put in over $86 million from state and local coffers. Now host committees are winding down while FIFA sits on more than $15 billion in cycle revenue. The broken pledges are piling up as a problem for Gianni Infantino.
