India DPIIT-recognized startups growth

The number of DPIIT-recognized startups in India has grown steadily over the years. From just 502 in 2016, the count rose to 5,473 in 2017, then 8,980 in 2018, 11,885 in 2019, 14,852 in 2020, 20,282 in 2021, 26,595 in 2022, 34,841 in 2023, and 34,294 in 2024. In 2025, it reached 36,500, and FY26 is projected to be a record year with over 55,200 new recognitions. The cumulative total as of March 2026 stands at 2.23 lakh.
