The United Kingdom saw no unicorn startups from 2000 to 2003. In 2004, the first unicorn appeared, followed by two in 2005 and three in 2006. The numbers continued to climb: 5 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 11 in 2009, and 15 in 2010. By 2011, there were 18, increasing to 22 in 2012 and 28 in 2013. The count reached 34 in 2014.
