The income threshold to join the top 1% in India has risen dramatically over the past two decades. In 2000, a household needed an annual income of ₹2,10,000. By 2002, it was ₹2,40,000, and in 2004, it reached ₹2,80,000. The bar kept climbing: ₹3,30,000 in 2006, ₹4,10,000 in 2008, ₹5,20,000 in 2010, ₹6,70,000 in 2012, and ₹7,70,000 in 2013.
