Japan fertility rate 2000-2012

Japan's total fertility rate has been on a long-term decline since the early 2000s. In 2000, the rate stood at 1.36 children per woman. It dropped to 1.33 in 2001, 1.32 in 2002, 1.29 in 2003, and stayed at 1.29 in 2004. The lowest point came in 2005 at 1.26, before a slight recovery to 1.32 in 2006, 1.34 in 2007, and 1.37 in both 2008 and 2009.
