    English speakers in Mexico have shown steady growth over the years. From 2000 at around 5.5 percent the share rose to about 5.7 percent in 2001, then 5.9 percent in 2002, 6.1 percent in 2003, and 6.3 percent in 2004. By 2005 it reached roughly 6.5 percent, followed by 6.8 percent in 2006, 7.1 percent in 2007, and 7.4 percent in 2008. The upward trend continued with 7.7 percent in 2009, 8.0 percent in 2010, 8.3 percent in 2011, and 8.6 percent in 2012.
