In the forests of northern Japan and parts of China, these unusual flowers look quite ordinary at first. Yet their petals turn completely transparent when they come into contact with water. The plant is commonly known as the skeleton flower or crystal flower. Its scientific name is Diphylleia grayi. The delicate blooms create a striking effect as the water makes the tissue nearly invisible, leaving only the veins visible like a delicate frame.
