Mick Foley AEW debut

Mick Foley shared an Instagram post reflecting on his AEW debut at Double or Nothing. He noted there is nothing wrong with receiving a nostalgia pop. He has gotten plenty of those over time and they always felt good. Yet the reaction he got in New York stood apart. It conveyed that people were glad he had arrived and that he could still contribute something meaningful. Foley made clear he has no intention of criticizing WWE. He loves the company and always will. He remains deeply grateful for every chance it gave him. Still, he pointed out something special about watching the owner of the company appear so plainly happy and energized. Mr. McMahon operated in his own style, but it lacked that same kind of joy. It strikes Foley that AEW wrestlers head out there aiming to win. They accept that failure forms part of the overall process. He has witnessed many performers across the years who seemed almost frozen with fear before stepping through the curtain. They had no idea if they would receive a figurative thumbs up or thumbs down. Tony comes across as excited. Tony clearly loves the work he does. He seems glad to be present, and that kind of spirit in turn makes Foley feel enthusiastic himself. Once Foley finished his in-ring promo, a few wrestlers scheduled for the card asked him whether he would be heading out. He responded by asking what else he was supposed to do. Sit alone watching Friends reruns back at his hotel room? There was a full show taking place. It was far more than just a show. It proved to be an amazing show. The crowd carried so much excitement. The atmosphere backstage brought back memories of how WWE felt in the Attitude Era. Everyone pulled for one another while also recognizing that striking out remained part of the journey toward hitting those monumental home runs. Foley expressed that he feels truly glad to work in an environment where wrestlers receive encouragement to swing for the fences. There they understand that not every swing will clear the park. He looks forward to discovering where this new chapter will lead him. He sees himself as something of a Swiss Army knife who can fill many different roles. He feels excited about the future and about wrestling again in a manner he has not experienced in several years. He offered thanks to AEW fans and to the AEW product itself for helping him rediscover his love for professional wrestling.
