Laika Studios is clawing back part of the cost by selling overseas distribution rights, and FilmNation is one of the buyers, putting the animation into 11 intl. markets this weekend for 2.9M across a five-day opening. Add the 11.8M US debut and you get that 14.7M worldwide figure, against a 100M production price tag. Overseas sales are just one of the ways the studio is recouping costs here.
