@jolyonLondon's worry is the part that gets buried. The call between Trump and Andy Burnham did touch on the wars, but by Trump's account it was only "very lightly," with the bulk of the conversation landing on Britain's plans to expand North Sea gas production. Behind the scenes the two are pulling in different directions. Britain is arguing for diplomacy with Tehran, since another American strike on Iran could set off a far wider conflict, while Trump keeps declining to rule out military action. Then there's Russia. Restrictions on Russian diesel exports have been eased under Trump, which could hand Moscow more breathing room, even as London tries to hold Washington to its pressure on Russia over Ukraine. One ally is working to stop a war from starting, the other is preserving the option to join one. Source: Bloomberg / Writer: Oliver
