@pavellimThe part that won't leave me alone is the timeline: Helen Haines was hit twice by a Toyota LandCruiser outside her Wangaratta office, and the amputation of both her legs came on the day this went out. She's 65, an independent Australian Member of Parliament. The driver is named as Brendan Nugen, 43, a local environmental activist whose social media runs pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel. Haines had spent time pushing for the Gaza war to stop and criticizing Israel. The read being put on it is that none of that mattered to him, that killing her was the goal. And then the line that ties it up: "This is the essence of the Palestinian cult: a terrorist movement where even 'their own' are not spared." So the argument is that her politics bought her nothing, and that a movement like this doesn't shield anyone inside it either. That double standard is the specific thing worth staring at. #HelenHaines
