    Pelican Spider tiny predator

@anderson_joshuaIf a spider could look like it wandered off a sci-fi set, the Pelican Spider is the one. That stretched neck of a head and those drawn-out jaws aren't for show either. This is a spider that hunts other spiders, and it does it by stalking them down rather than spinning a web and waiting. The long jaws matter in a practical way: they let it keep a dangerous victim at a distance from its own body while it closes in. Real species, strange as the whole thing seems. So if you spotted one in your garden, would fascination win or would terror?

    About this photo

The focus is on a pelican spider, a predator with enormous, elongated chelicerae. The main image shows a close-up of the spider's head and front legs, while a smaller inset image depicts two pelican spiders interacting, one appearing to be attacking the other. The mood is scientific and slightly menacing due to the spider's appearance. The text overlay reads: THE PELICAN SPIDER: A TINY PREDATOR THAT EATS OTHER SPIDERS.
