About this photo
The image focuses on Nikola Tesla and a quote about his prediction of smartphones. A vintage-style portrait of Tesla is on the right, with a large block of text on the left, overlaid on an image of an old mobile phone. The mood is informative and historical, with a touch of wonder at the foresight. The most notable visual is the stark contrast between Tesla's image and the modern concept of a smartphone, which he accurately predicted. ON-SCREEN TEXT: Nikola Tesla's prediction of a smartphone, Collier's magazine interview, 1926: "When wireless is perfectly applied the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain, which in fact it is, all things being particles of a real and rhythmic whole. We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance. Not only this, but through television and telephony we shall see and hear one another as perfectly as though we were face to face, despite intervening distances of thousands of miles; and the instruments through which we shall be able to do his will be amazingly simple compared with our present telephone
