@jolyonThe alliance that gave Abdul El-Sayed's primary campaign its energy is now the thing he has to answer for in a general election. The Michigan Democratic Senate candidate privately got in touch with streamer Hasan Piker to tell him the rhetoric was costing votes, and asked him to cut out specific remarks, this after the two had campaigned side by side during the primary. Piker's own history includes telling Jews who keep backing Israel they should fear for their safety, and calling America "pound for pound" worse than Al-Qaeda. El-Sayed is in a close Senate race against the GOP's Mike Rogers. Among Michigan Democrats and Jewish leaders, the outreach is drawing concern. What worked in a primary is reading as a liability now.
