US states with the most public-use airports

@writersroom.boardwalkIf you had to guess which state is the most airport-dense, the answer is probably not the one you'd picture. Alaska tops the Federal Aviation Administration's NPIAS 2025-2029 count with 392 public-use airports, and Texas sits one behind at 391, so the national lead is basically a photo finish. California lands third at 245, Michigan fourth at 224, and then there's a real drop-off: Ohio and Oklahoma are deadlocked at 153 apiece for fifth. Minnesota follows at 148, Kansas at 140, Washington at 133, Indiana at 131, Florida at 130, New York at 129. A few more single-digit gaps and you get Idaho at 128, Montana at 127, Wisconsin at 126, Missouri at 123, Pennsylvania at 120, Iowa at 116, North Carolina at 107, Georgia and Illinois tied at 105, Oregon at 104. The whole thing covers all 50 states and only counts public-use airports and other public-use facilities, so private-use facilities don't factor in anywhere. #Travel

    About this photo

The image is a map of the U.S. showing states color-coded by the number of public-use airports. The focus is on the data presented on the map, with each state displaying a number representing its airport count. The mood is informative and educational, presented in a clear, infographic style. The most notable visual elements are the large numbers within each state and the color-coded legend at the bottom.
