@writersroom.boardwalkSomebody put together a ranked list of the fastest things humans have ever built and the Parker Solar Probe sits way out in front at 692,000 km/h. That’s the top spot out of 27 entries, starting with spacecraft and probes and working all the way down to a Bugatti Bolide at 500 km/h. The spread is wild, Juno clocks 265,000 km/h, Helios 2 hits 252,792 km/h, and a manhole cover from a nuclear test got launched at 240,000 km/h. The Galileo Atmospheric Probe comes in at 172,800 km/h, Voyager 1 at 61,200 km/h, New Horizons at 58,536 km/h, and the Stardust Capsule at 46,440 km/h. Apollo 10’s command module did 39,897 km/h, and a Falcon Heavy second stage reached 39,600 km/h. Russia’s Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle is listed at 32,200 km/h, the Space Shuttle at 28,000 km/h, and a light-gas gun projectile at 25,000 km/h. The Falcon HTV-2 goes 20,921 km/h, an X-43A scramjet hit 11,200 km/h, and a rocket sled topped out at 10,620 km/h. Then you’ve got the 3M22 Zircon missile at 9,800 km/h, a railgun projectile at 9,000 km/h, and the X-15 at 7,274 km/h. Even a rifle bullet makes the cut at 4,500 km/h, ahead of the SR-71 at 3,529 km/h. Concorde is on there at 2,180 km/h, ThrustSSC at 1,228 km/h, a Boeing 747 at 1,000 km/h, a maglev train at 603 km/h, and the Spirit of Australia at 511 km/h before the Bolide rounds it out. The infographic includes national flags beside a lot of the objects and credits NASA, ESA, military reports, official records, and Guinness World Records.
