Ueno Bank froze the money of 3 million people in Paraguay. Salaries, pensions, savings, all of it, and 60% of the country's adults are affected. Accounts locked, the app dead, police standing at the branches. The central bank only moved once the solvency ratio fell under half the legal minimum, and state pension funds were sitting exposed to losses in the hundreds of millions. Depositors got shut out overnight. Meanwhile the big American networks gave the last 48 hours to election night instead. Was the timing a coincidence? Maybe. But election coverage is easier, and a whole lot more convenient, so the silence writes itself.
