A high school teacher broke down in class on the second day. He had seniors, 17 and 18, read two paragraphs and write one sentence. He gave sentence starters and basically filled in the sentence himself, then gave the scenario, annotated the text together, and even told them the answers before the task. They still couldn't insert four words. Just four words. He says they can reason and defend their point of view verbally, but can't read or write. He specifically mentions young Black and brown boys and girls. He doesn't understand what the problem is.
