Rodrigo Alves underwent three surgeries within 12 to 15 months, and the repeated trauma destroyed the soft tissue of his nose. The skin lost elasticity while internal scarring fused structures together, causing his airway to nearly disappear. Doctors found his nostrils too narrow for a speculum inspection and called this one of the most severe complications in their medical career. They warn that another operation carries an extremely high risk of the nasal tip dying and falling off, advising Rodrigo to wait at least one year with his nose completely untouched. While Rodrigo agreed to leave it alone, he questions why friends who had the same surgery didn't face similar issues as his scar tissue continues to contract and tighten.
