A prominent figure from the 2014 Umbrella Movement pleaded guilty under the national security law, and Hong Kong has tacked on another 10 years for "foreign collusion." He's been in prison since 2020 and was due out the following year. Now he stays locked up until 2036. Marco Rubio called the ruling a penalty for free speech and pushed for him to be freed right away. Other Western governments made the same demand.
