The USGS revised its initial classification of a seismic event in Nepal, confirming the signal originated from a massive landslide rather than tectonic activity. Detailed analysis of long-period waves showed that an avalanche of ice and rock from a glacier produced energy equivalent to a magnitude 5.2 earthquake. This significant displacement triggered debris flows and flash floods along the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa. The disaster has resulted in more than 100 deaths, with hundreds of individuals still missing #Nepal
