A birthday cake meant for Eli became the weapon that nearly killed her. While celebrating at home with three best friends, parents left the room after preparing the dessert. As Eli closed her eyes to make a wish and blew out candles, one friend shoved her face into the treat. She collapsed instantly without moving. Blood began seeping from the cake where thin skewers hidden inside had pierced her face. Screams drew parents back in who called emergency help immediately. Medical staff managed to save Eli's life, but she was left with a permanent scar on her face. The incident ended her friendship with those friends forever. Her parents took them to court, yet since they were all only 15 years old, no punishment was handed down.
